Do You Have the "Zeal to Deal?"
By Renée Eaton

Now that we've all sacrificed our sacred cows, let's move on to creating genuine partnerships in our businesses. Partnerships are the backbone of internal projects amongst co-workers and external ones with clients.

We like to look at partnerships as a "zeal to deal." We're not so much looking to generate an end result with these, or a "deal," but a commitment between people, a "zeal."

This zeal to deal commitment is based on a trust between individuals which is formed by three main areas: respect, equity and empowerment.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Find Out What it Means to Partnerships

Respect for a partnership is built by understanding, communicating, mediating, honouring and reaching a consensus with others. Without a respect, there will be no commitment to the partnership.

Don't Quit the Equity

Equity refers to the resources necessary to carry out the partnership. In these partnerships, this not only means finances, but also knowledge, networks, personnel and social power.

Empowerment Empowers Everyone

Empowerment in a partnership is about power and the will to perform an action. Empowerment is strengthened through application, authorship, credibility, new partnerships and responsibility. As empowerment strengthens, misconceptions are ended and respect grows; the partnership becomes more powerful.

This type of genuine partnership cannot help but strengthen all involved.
