Three Tips on Managing Gen Y Employees
By Renée Eaton

Generation Y, the twentysomethings of the population, are starting to enter the workforce. This is creating a big stir in companies and organizations. Many businesses are finding out that the way they are used to doing things doesn't work for these new recruits. And because these employees represent such a large section of the workforce now and into the future, they are starting to worry about the changes they may have to make to accommodate them.

While it is true that businesses are going to have to make a few changes on how they hire, train, motivate and retain these workers, as well as their plans for the future, they can rest assured that it isn't all going to be for the worse.

Despite some bad publicity, you will find that Gen Y employees are young, energetic and enthusiastic and can be used to your company's advantage. It is just a matter of keeping them happy. And this isn't hard. Below you will find tips for training, motivating and retaining Gen Y employees.

1. Training - Try using e-learning to train these employees. It is a medium they are comfortable with due to growing up in a video game culture.

2. Motivating - Let them use their imagination and be creative. These employees can become bored easily without diversity.

3. Retaining - Share your vision of the company with them and how they fit in the picture, this way they will feel more connected.
